Grp. A Race Header
Here is a dyno of a Grp. A Race header in a 2.3 L S14. This is from a regular customer who dynos everything that he adds. He added a E2 cam with great results (about 14 HP). Then, he added a Jet Hot coated Grp. A Race header. To him, that was the next logical step. Makes sense. The gain, nothing!!!!
Does this mean that the boys at BMW are wasting their and our money? No, not at all. The race header does nothing for a car producing 181 HP at the wheels or perhaps some 213 crank HP. It was most likely designed for an engine that was producing (or going to produce, later) much more power or more than 200+ at the wheels. The BMW engineers had to stick to the racing regulations and not change parts down the line. The S14 in street form may not have benefited from the race header, but after the race "legal" mods, it may have made quite a difference in more than one race! Some of the racing S14 2.0 L's were rumored to be running 280 crank HP. That's a bit more than the average modded street going E30 M3!
