IS Racer
This dyno has quite an interesting story behind it. This E30 M3 belongs to a JS racer who decided to build the standard "kit" 2.5 L (pistons, crank, and custom chip) after determining that his 2.3 L was a bit tired after a few seasons of club racing. Armed with the standard chip that came with his kit, he arrived at our dyno showing only a mild 171 HP @ the wheels. Now being in IS and now competing with the '95 E36 M3's, this kind of power just wouldn't do! The average E36 M3, although a bit heavier, can put down some 210 HP at the wheels or 40 more HP with gobs of additional torque! After our evaluation, we determined that the motor had way too much compression with the added stroke, and with no help from the stock cams to bleed off some of the added pressure, detonation was imminent. Let's just say that a street engine doesn't like to see 11.2-11.5 compression on pump gas! Well, after some careful tuning, we squeezed out another 13 HP at the wheels with one area that even approached 18+ HP!
